Every Single Acre

Every single acre. Since it was established in 1994 every single acre of the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge, all 16,613 of them, was purchased using money from the Land and Water Conservation Fund. LWCF is used by federal management agencies like the Fish and Wildlife Service to buy private land within authorized boundaries (called inholdings) from willing sellers at market value. Future purchases are prioritized based on improvements to habitat protection, recreation, and public access. We simply wouldn’t have the Canaan Valley NWR without LWCF.
