EPA wants to roll back and delay PFAS drinking water protections
The EPA is proposing to weaken protections from toxic PFAS chemicals — also known as “forever chemicals” — and your voice is needed to protect WV communities.
First, EPA plans to abandon drinking water standards for several types of PFAS, including PFHxS, PFNA, and GenX, even though these chemicals cause cancer, immune system damage, and other serious health concerns.
Second, EPA plans to delay enforcement of the remaining water quality standards for PFAS until 2031. While communities understand that water managers need resources and technical support to remove PFAS, extending compliance deadlines means many families could face years of continued exposure to toxic chemicals in their drinking water.
EPA has admitted that they are changing these rules because of process flaws — not because new science proves a change in the toxicity of “forever chemicals.”
Tell the EPA to stand by the best available science and maintain the strongest possible protections.
Public health is more important than process and politics.
Thank you for speaking up.
