Act Now: No Off-Road Vehicles on State Public Lands
On Sunday, September 11 at 5:00 p.m. the Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Subcommittee is meeting to prepare for the 2023 legislative session.
They have only one specific item on their agenda: “Presentations regarding use of off-road vehicles (ORV) in state parks.”
WV Rivers and many of our partners oppose off-road vehicles in OUR state parks, forests, and wildlife management areas. These state lands hold many of our treasured special places – like Blackwater Falls and the Babcock Grist Mill. They give us space to hunt, fish, hike, and relax.
Allowing off-road vehicles on state public lands will dramatically change the way we experience these special places by bringing noise and environmental degradation. Contact members of the subcommittee.
Off-road vehicles cause extensive erosion and damage trails; they destroy sensitive habitats and impair water quality through muddy run-off that kills aquatic life.
Additionally, our state parks and forests are understaffed and underfunded. Facilities are already struggling to maintain current trails. They simply can not afford the cost and staffing needed to repair the damage caused by off-road vehicles.
