Public Hearing on Injection Well Tonight – 5/22
This evening, Tuesday, May 22, the WVDEP is holding a public hearing on a fracking waste injection well in Selbyville, WV. From 5-6pm, WVDEP will be holding an informational meeting on the injection well. From 6-8pm you can submit comments on the permit application. You can view the permit application here, the draft permit here and an article on the public hearing here.
We’ve prepared a fact sheet on underground injection wells and some key points you can use in your comments:
- The injection well location is 0.25 miles from Alec Run, a native brook trout stream. Request water quality monitoring for Alec Run.
- The injection well location is within a mile of the zone of peripheral concern for Buckhannon Water. Request the company send water quality monitoring results to the City of Buckhannon Water Department.
- The injection well location is close to several residences. Request the company conduct water quality monitoring in wells and springs that serve as drinking water for residents within a half mile of the injection well.
Written comments on the permit application will be accepted through June 1, 2018. We’ll share more information soon on how you can submit written comments!
