Back Again — and Worse: A New Threat to Public Lands
You helped us stop the sale of public lands in the House just a few weeks ago — and we’re so grateful for your action.
A sweeping plan would force the sale of up to 3 million acres of public lands across the country. And while West Virginia isn’t named in this first wave, this move would set a precedent that puts our public lands and waters at risk in future budget cycles.
But it doesn’t stop there. The bill also:
Undermines a bipartisan land protection law, the Federal Land Transaction Facilitation Act (FLTFA)
Reverses oil and gas leasing reforms you have helped advocate for in the past two years
Allows private development of fragile wild landscapes, including the Brooks Range in Alaska
This is not about affordable housing or fiscal responsibility — it’s a dangerous land grab disguised as policy.
Let’s remind our Senators: Public lands belong to the people, not to the highest bidder.

Our public lands define West Virginia — and we must speak out to protect them.
