Wildlife Bridges, Clean Water, and Your Impact in 2024
In the last few days, I returned from the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) Affiliate Chief Executives Conference in Santa Fe, NM, where I had the privilege of representing West Virginia and connecting with environmental leaders from across the U.S. and Puerto Rico. One of the most inspiring moments was touring the Santa Ana Pueblo to learn about their innovative work in wildlife conservation. Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act they received support to construct wildlife bridges and tunnels that will establish safe corridors across I-25 and U.S. 550, some of the busiest and most accident-prone areas, linking the Jemez and Sandia mountain ranges. This effort not only enhances traffic safety but also protects wildlife central to the Pueblo’s cultural heritage.
These inspiring stories reaffirmed the importance of our mission here in West Virginia and left me feeling deeply renewed and motivated. The conference was a powerful reminder that, while our work shares common goals with other National Wildlife Federation affiliates—such as protecting wildlife and creating healthier ecosystems—each affiliate’s efforts are uniquely shaped by the landscapes, cultures, and challenges of their region. This blend of shared purpose and regional distinctiveness inspires me as we continue our vital work ahead.
I also would like to use this moment to say thank you to everyone who has pitched in to help us far exceed our 2024 fundraising goal.
People like you are a major factor in the significant progress we made in protecting our water, public lands, and local communities this past year. YOU are helping to build a safer and cleaner future for West Virginia.
Here’s to all we will accomplish together in 2025!
With gratitude,
Jennie
