Take Action to Protect West Virginians from Toxic Chemicals

The EPA is deciding whether to list five toxic chemicals as “high priority” for risk evaluation. Two of those chemicals are in use at facilities in West Virginia.

West Virginians, especially those in low-income and rural communities, are bearing the brunt of pollution. We all deserve clean air and water — it’s time to hold chronic polluters accountable.

Here’s why it matters:

  • APG Polytech LLC, a plastics manufacturer in Apple Grove, is discharging Acetaldehyde, a probable carcinogen, into the Ohio River upstream of the drinking water supply of the City of Huntington.
  • Covestro LLC, a chemical manufacturer in South Charleston, is emitting Acrylonitrile, a cancer-causing toxin, into the air we breathe. They were recently in violation of the Clean Air Act.

The deadline to submit your comment is tomorrow, Wednesday, October 23. Tell officials at the EPA that you support their decision to list these toxins as “high priority” chemicals in the Toxic Substance Control Act.

Together, we can push for cleaner air and water for all West Virginians.
