June 26: Celebrate Clean Water at Summersville Lake
We’re holding a birthday party for the Clean Water Act!
For 50 years, the Clean Water Act has dramatically reduced pollution and improved water quality across the country. The Act can be summed up in just three words: fishable, swimmable, drinkable. It strives to make every body of water in the United States safe to use and enjoy. What’s not to celebrate?
We’ll be marking 50 years of the Clean Water Act on Sunday, June 26, during our Clean Water Act Birthday Party.
Everyone is invited to the celebration! We’ll have cupcakes,(bring your lunch and make it a picnic!), opportunities to learn about the Clean Water Act, and folks are encouraged to bring their own boats to paddle Summersville Lake with WV Rivers staff and board.
Free activities include:
12-5PM – Pontoon boat excursions with our board member Paul Breuer. We’ll have life jackets available, but encourage you to bring your own!
12-4PM – Kids activities with the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection and the National Parks Conservation Association.
1-4PM – Paddle boarding with Active Southern West Virginia. Try out a stand up paddle board on the flat water of Summersville Lake.
2-3PM – Learn about the snakes of West Virginia with Roy Moose.
3:00PM – Toast to Clean Water and Birthday Cake. Bring your water bottle!
