In early December, WV Rivers Coalition attended legislative forums in Berkeley and Jefferson Counties to ask legislators about their plans to protect rivers and streams during the 2020 legislative session.

During both forums, WV Rivers posed a question to legislators on PFAS contamination and water quality standards. In Berkeley County, nine legislators attended the forum and although varying in their responses, they agreed that all West Virginians deserve access to safe, clean drinking water but failed to provide specifics on how to ensure our water is protected.

In Jefferson County, Delegates Sammi Brown (District 65) and John Doyle (District 67) explained their positions on the importance of strong water quality standards.

Delegate Brown hit the nail on the head, when she said that clean water is a basic human need that we all deserve equal and equitable access to in order to thrive and be prosperous West Virginians.

The 2020 legislative session is just around the corner and we need your support to make it clear that the only way we achieve safe water is through enacting protective water quality standards. We can’t let legislators off the hook – they must act to protect our water and our health.
