What we leave behind

One person really can make a difference.

This week, we’re honored to share another story from a family who chose to create a lasting legacy for West Virginia’s rivers.

Forever Flowing Story

The Klines

The Shavers Fork of the Cheat River is a river worth knowing, loving, and protecting for generations to come. This Make-A-Will Month, consider how planned giving can help protect the places that have shaped our lives and leave them healthier for those who come next.

“Clean water is absolutely everything. We can’t live without it, and West Virginia is blessed with some of the most beautiful water anywhere. Some of my favorite memories are simply being in that water, swimming in the Shavers Fork, the Black Fork, and places like Otter Creek.

Protecting our rivers means protecting the people, wildlife, and communities that depend on them. It also means protecting what makes West Virginia such a special place for people to visit, experience, and love.

I think about what we leave behind when we’re gone. We think about family and the people we love, but what about the nonprofits doing good for our world? A planned gift doesn’t hurt us while we’re living, and when we’re gone, why not give something to an organization like WV Rivers that will continue doing good for people, wildlife and the places we love?”

That is really what planned giving is about. Making sure something you care about keeps going.

For more than 35 years, people who care about West Virginia’s rivers have made this work possible. Planned gifts are one more way to help protect clean water and the places we all love long into the future.

If you’ve thought about including WV Rivers in your estate plans, we have a few simple resources on our Planned Giving webpage, including an on-demand webinar and an Estate Planning Checklist.

And if you’d rather just talk it through, I’m always happy to have that conversation.

Thank you for helping ensure West Virginia’s rivers remain Forever Flowing for generations to come.

With gratitude,
