In 2014, the West Virginia Legislature passed the Aboveground Storage Tank (AST) Act in response to the devastating Elk River chemical leak.
This law was designed to prevent future water crises by ensuring regular inspections of tanks storing hazardous chemicals near drinking water sources. Now, industry lobbyists are pushing SB 592, a bill that weakens these protections and puts our drinking water at risk.
This bill passed the Senate on March 14, 2025 and is now under consideration in the House Committee on Energy and Public Works. Tell lawmakers to protect our water by opposing SB 592. →
