Community Meeting on Toxic PFAS Chemicals in Source Water
Eastern Panhandle residents are invited to a community forum on Wednesday, January 25 at 7:00pm at the Robert C. Byrd Center for Congressional History and Education at Shepherd University to learn about toxic “forever” chemicals.
Toxic PFAS chemicals have been found in drinking water supplies at dangerous levels in Jefferson and Berkeley Counties. PFAS, per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances are manmade chemicals that do not break down in nature and can cause adverse health effects, including cancer, at very low levels.
Meeting panelists include
- Jenna Dodson, staff scientist at WV Rivers,
- Brent Walls, Upper Potomac Riverkeeper, and
- Delegate Evan Hansen, who will review the PFAS Protection Act, a bill that would help to protect human and environmental health.
Members of the public unable to attend the meeting in-person are invited to stream the forum via Zoom. Stream the meeting.
Former State Delegate John Doyle will moderate the discussion, which includes time for audience questions. The program will conclude by 8:30pm.
