Show Up for Flooded Communities — Take Action + Give Support
This weekend, communities throughout north central West Virginia were devastated by severe flash flooding. Tragically, several lives were lost, and many more families were displaced or impacted. Our hearts are with everyone who is grieving or beginning the difficult work of recovery.
If you or someone you know has been impacted by the recent floods, there are organizations offering direct support, information, and assistance:
- Ohio County Family Resource Network (OCFRN): Follow OCFRN on Facebook for up-to-date information on local services and needs.
- United Way of Tygart Valley: Serving the Fairmont area and surrounding communities. Visit tvunitedway.org to access recovery resources.
- American Red Cross: Call 1-800-RED-CROSS for immediate assistance, shelter, or support.
- VOAD Damage Assessment Form: If your home or property was affected, please complete this form to help direct aid and inform recovery efforts.
- CDC Safety Guidelines: Know the risks brought on by floodwater to help protect yourself and your loved ones
As we support our neighbors in the immediate aftermath, we’re also looking ahead. This won’t be the last flood West Virginians face, so our state and communities MUST do more to prepare.

Here’s how you can help today and ensure we move forward, together:
1. Support Mutual Aid on the Ground
Donate directly to the following organizations that immediately started helping families clean up, relocate, and recover. Your donation — big or small — makes a real difference.
If you would like to volunteer, sign up with the Red Cross today.
2. Send Letters to Support Flood Recovery and Resilience
With one quick action, you can send two separate letters to:
- State lawmakers: Urging them to fund the Flood Resiliency Trust Fund, a program that helps communities prepare for the next disaster.
- Your US Senators and Representatives: Asking for strong recovery support and long-term investments in infrastructure and safety.
We believe in a better future for our state — one where we’re not just reacting to floods, but preparing for them with care, intention, and community at the center. As southern West Virginia continues recovering from February’s flood, and as communities in north central WV begin their own long recovery, this work has never been more urgent.
