Pharmaceuticals in our waters can cause serious health issues because even small amounts may have impacts that persist over time.
Waste water treatment plants do not remove medications and hormones from treated water, and so these substances end up in our rivers and streams, and may impact drinking water downstream.
In the environment they pose a danger to fish and other aquatic life. |

To help combat the rising levels of man made substances in our waters, WVRC and Potomac Water Watch has launched the first Consumer Drug Return Program in West Virginia.
Please return any unwanted, unused or expired medications to one of the participating pharmacies below. We will then arrange to have these substances properly disposed of.
